2) Find data sources on operationalizing some of the variables. Data on occurrence of industrial clusters, temporal data on trends in the unorganized labour market, nature and characteristics of slum clusters etc. Look up NIC website for NSS survey info.
3) Literature search on books/articles dealing with labour market segmentation in the Indian context. Look up planning commission website, EPW archives and ICRIER policy papers.
4) Rethink political competition argument. Try to find a better handle on the N-S issue and figure out how and why caste matters. Read chapters by Jaffrelot, Sudha Pai, Hasan, Chatterjee, Nandy
